The Solar Mythbuster

Photovoltaic (PV) technology involves solar panels or tiles generating electricity from daylight. PV can either come in traditional panel formats, or as solar tiles which integrate with your roof and replace normal tiles.

Some common Myths about Solar Power include:

Myth: It only works in sunny countries

Not true - solar PV works off daylight, not heat. So even on a cloudy day in Northern Ireland, it will be generating electricity!

Myth: It's complicated

Not true - solar PV has no moving parts, it is silent, and needs very little maintenance. Plus it comes with a 25 year warranty, provided by Solarcentury.

Myth: The solar tiles will make my roof more likely to leak

Not true - PV tiles go through exactly the same testing for weatherproofing and toughness as conventional tiles - so your roof will be just as secure (and probably better if you are re-roofing!).

Myth: It will be harder to sell my house

Not true - these days many houses with solar PV installed sell more quickly and at a premium - and this is only likely to increase as green awareness grows and the law requires higher environmental standards in housing.

Myth: It's too expensive

An average installation will cost about £11,000, but you'll save on your electricity bills, and cut your carbon emissions by about 1 tonne per year & you're investing in your home.
